Identity verification data — your identity document (passport or driving licence) submitted through Stripe for the purpose of profile verification. This data is processed by Stripe in accordance with their own privacy policy.


Profile data — any additional information you choose to add to your profile, including trade type, location, and profile photo.


Commitment data — the details entered into Digital Commitments, including scope of work, cost, timescale, payment terms, and all communications and updates logged within a Commitment.


Recommendation data — Mutual Recommendations submitted by you or about you at the conclusion of a job.


Usage data — information about how you use the platform, including login activity, pages visited, and actions taken within your account.


Device and technical data — your IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system, collected automatically when you visit our website or use the platform.


Communications data — any messages you send to us directly, including support requests and dispute submissions.
 

4. How We Use Your Data


We use your personal data for the following purposes:

 

  • To create and manage your profile on the platform

  • To verify your identity through Stripe

  • To facilitate Digital Commitments between tradespeople and homeowners

  • To display Mutual Recommendations on your profile

  • To send SMS notifications relating to your active Commitments

  • To maintain the integrity and security of the platform

  • To improve the performance and functionality of the platform


We will never sell your data, share it with third parties for marketing purposes, or use it for any purpose other than those listed above.
 

5. Legal Basis for Processing

Contract — processing necessary to provide the platform's services to you, including creating your profile, managing Commitments, and sending SMS notifications.


Legitimate interests — retaining profile data, Commitment records, and Mutual Recommendations to protect other users of the platform and maintain the integrity of the trust infrastructure. This includes retaining data after a profile is suspended or closed.


Legal obligation — processing necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
 

6. Data Retention


We retain your personal data for as long as your profile is active on the platform.


If you choose to leave the platform, your profile will be suspended and removed from public view. Your personal data will be retained securely in the background under the legal basis of legitimate interest — to protect other users of the platform and to allow you to reinstate your profile and full history if you choose to return.


Commitment data and Mutual Recommendations are retained permanently as part of the platform's trust infrastructure. This data forms part of the evidence trail that protects all users and cannot be deleted on request.


If you believe any data we hold about you is inaccurate, you have the right to request a correction at any time.
 

7. Identity Verification and Stripe


Profile verification on Recommend & Share is handled through Stripe, a third party identity verification provider. When you submit your identity document for verification, that data is processed by Stripe in accordance with their own privacy policy, available at stripe.com/gb/privacy.


Recommend & Share Ltd does not store your identity document directly. We retain a record of your verification status and the link between your verified identity and your profile.
 

8. SMS Notifications


We use your mobile number to send you SMS notifications relating to key actions within your active Commitments. These messages are transactional — they relate directly to your use of the platform and are not marketing messages. You cannot opt out of transactional SMS notifications whilst your profile is active, as they form a core part of the platform's functionality.
 

9. Cookies and Tracking


Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience, analyse site usage, and support the functionality of the platform.


Cookies we may use include:


Essential cookies — necessary for the website and platform to function. These cannot be disabled.


Analytics cookies — used to understand how visitors use our website, including which pages are visited and how long users spend on them. This helps us improve the platform.

The Recommend & Share platform is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created a profile on the platform, please contact us at info@recommendandshare.com and we will take immediate action.

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify users of any material changes. Continued use of the platform following notification of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
