Frequently Asked Questions
Recommend & Share is the UK's first trust infrastructure platform for the home improvement industry. It replaces the quote, the handshake and blind trust with a verified, digital and accountable process — for both the tradesperson and the homeowner. Every job. Every time.
Recommend & Share is built for anyone involved in a home improvement job — tradespeople who want to protect their work and reputation, homeowners who want certainty before letting someone into their home, and merchants who want to support the tradespeople they serve. If you've ever been let down by the current system, this platform was built for you.
A Digital Commitment is the first documented digital agreement of its kind between a tradesperson and a homeowner. It replaces the traditional quote with something far more robust — a mutually agreed record of the scope, cost, materials, timeline and expectations for a job. Both parties accept it before work begins. It is not a quote. It is not a contract. It is a Commitment — and it holds both sides equally accountable from day one.
Yes — the standard commitment is completely and permanently free for tradespeople and homeowners. No subscription. No hidden fees. The people who need protection most should never have to pay for it. That has been the founding principle of Recommend & Share from day one and it will never change.
No. Recommend & Share requires no download whatsoever. The platform is web based — accessible through any browser on any device. Beyond that, key interactions such as your Digital Commitments are delivered directly via SMS, meaning you can respond and take action straight from your phone without needing to open a browser at all. We built it this way deliberately. No barriers. No tech obstacles. Just a better way to work.
Both the tradesperson and the homeowner create a profile when they join. At this stage of our Beta, verification is not yet mandatory — however we strongly encourage all users to complete the verification process to get the full benefit of the platform and to build trust with the people they work with.
When verification is completed, identity is confirmed through Stripe — one of the world's most trusted and secure payment and identity verification platforms. The process is straightforward, secure and designed to confirm that every person on the platform is exactly who they say they are.
This is what makes Recommend & Share genuinely different. Most platforms in this industry carry out little or no verification at all. We are not aware of any other platform that verifies both the tradesperson and the homeowner equally. We do. Equal accountability. Full transparency.
Any registered user on the platform can view your public profile — tradespeople, homeowners, and merchants alike. This includes your shared experiences, your ratings, and your commitment history. If your profile is suspended, it is removed from public view entirely. No user can search for it, find it, or access it. It remains invisible unless and until you choose to reinstate it.
A Mutual Recommendation is a two-way account of the job experience — left by both the tradesperson and the homeowner after the work is completed. Unlike a one-sided review, a Mutual Recommendation gives the full picture. Good behaviour becomes visible and valuable. Poor behaviour becomes difficult to repeat. Over time your recommendations build a verified track record that follows you — and works in your favour.
Online directories and lead generation sites are merely an introductory platform that charge tradespeople a fee for the privilege. They are built around generating leads, not building trust. Recommend & Share is fundamentally different. We are a trust infrastructure platform — not a directory, not a lead generator and not a review site. We verify both the tradesperson and the homeowner equally. We document agreements before work begins. We track the job in real time. We capture mutual recommendations when the job is complete. The result is a self-regulating ecosystem where good behaviour is rewarded, rogue behaviour is deterred and the entire industry standard is raised — not through regulation, but through visibility and accountability. And unlike those platforms, Recommend & Share is free. For everyone. Forever.
Recommend & Share is live and currently operating in Beta. As with any first-of-its-kind platform we are continuously listening, learning and improving. Beta means you are among the first to experience something that has never existed before in this industry — and your experience matters enormously to us.
We would genuinely welcome your feedback. If you have a suggestion, notice something that could work better or encounter any issues during your experience please Contact Us and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Once you have created your profile on the Recommend & Share platform you can also reach us directly through the messenger — our team is there to help with anything you need. Every message is read and every improvement matters to us.
Your data is yours. Recommend & Share will never sell, share or pass your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes. The details you provide when creating your profile are used solely to verify your identity and facilitate the platform's core functions — nothing more.
If your profile is suspended, your data is retained securely but removed from public view entirely. It is only used for the purpose of operating the platform and protecting other users — and it only becomes relevant again if you choose to reinstate your profile.
We take data privacy seriously. All information is handled in accordance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation. You are in control of your data at all times.

Because the moment someone can delete their history and start fresh, the entire platform becomes worthless. A customer who's refused to pay three tradespeople could wipe their profile, create a new one, and do it again. A rogue trader could erase every negative experience and reappear as if nothing happened. That's exactly how the current system works — and it's exactly what we're here to fix. The same rule that prevents a dishonest customer from wiping their history is the same rule that protects the reputation you've worked hard to build. Your good track record is safe — permanently. Nobody can take it from you. And nobody can erase theirs to avoid accountability.
Your profile is suspended and removed from public view. Nobody can see it. Nobody can find it. For all practical purposes you've left. But your data is retained securely in the background.
Two reasons. First — to protect other users. The shared experiences on your profile were left by real people to help real tradespeople and real homeowners make safer decisions. Removing that data would remove the protection it provides to others. Second — to protect you. If you ever decide to come back, your full history is waiting for you. Every positive experience. Every five-star recommendation. Every piece of trust you built. You don't start from zero. You pick up exactly where you left off.
Straightforward. If you try to create a new profile, the system will recognise your details and let you know a profile already exists. You'll be given the option to reinstate it — with your full history intact. Your reputation, your shared experiences, your track record — all restored.
Not easily. Unverified profiles are visible to other users for exactly what they are — unverified. On a platform built around trust, an unverified profile carries significantly less weight. Most tradespeople and homeowners will simply choose not to engage with one.
For verified profiles, the protection is absolute. Creating a new verified profile requires identity verification. If a suspended verified profile already exists under your details, the system flags it. You can't create a second verified identity to bypass your history.
The message is simple — verify, and your reputation is fully protected. Don't verify, and other users will draw their own conclusions.
The right to erasure under GDPR is not absolute — it has specific exemptions, including the protection of other people and the prevention of fraud.
Our platform retains profile data under the legal basis of legitimate interest — the same legal basis used by credit reference agencies like Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. You can't call Experian and ask them to delete your credit history because you missed some payments. That data exists to protect lenders and the financial system. Our data exists to protect tradespeople, homeowners, and merchants. The principle is the same — individual deletion would undermine the protection of the wider community.
If you believe any data on your profile is inaccurate, you have the full right to request a correction. We take accuracy seriously because the platform only works if the information on it is genuine.
Yes. This is standard practice across trust and reputation platforms. Airbnb retains trip and review data even after account deactivation — to protect future hosts and guests. Uber retains rating and trip data for fraud prevention and platform integrity. eBay retains feedback on completed transactions even after accounts are closed. Credit reference agencies retain your payment history for up to six years regardless of whether you close your account with a lender. Every platform that relies on trust and reputation retains the data that makes that trust possible. We're no different — except that we're transparent about it from day one.
Yes. Your data is stored securely and is only used for the purpose of operating the platform and protecting other users. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with third parties for marketing. We don't use it for anything other than maintaining the trust infrastructure that protects everyone on the platform. If your profile is suspended, your data is retained securely but is not visible to other users. It only becomes relevant again if you attempt to create a new profile — at which point the system offers you the option to reinstate your existing one.
Absolutely. If any information on your profile is inaccurate — whether it's your personal details or a shared experience you believe is unfair or incorrect — you can flag it for review. We take accuracy seriously because the platform only works if the data on it is genuine and trustworthy. For shared experiences, we review disputes against the documented commitment. The digital commitment provides a clear evidence trail of what was agreed, what was communicated, and what happened. This protects you from unfair or dishonest feedback.
Because this policy protects the genuine far more than it restricts anyone.
If you're a tradesperson who does great work and treats customers fairly — your reputation is permanently protected. Nobody can take it away. Every positive experience and recommendation, every piece of trust you've built stays with you for as long as the platform exists. That's your proof. That's your competitive advantage. And it grows stronger with every job.
If you're a homeowner who pays on time and treats tradespeople with respect — your reputation makes you someone every tradesperson wants to work for. You'll get better tradespeople, better service, and better outcomes because your history proves you're genuine.
The only people this policy disadvantages are the ones who want to erase bad behaviour and start again. And those are the exact people this platform was built to protect you from.
One final thought.
This platform exists because good people on both sides of a job deserve better. Tradespeople who turn up, do great work, and take pride in what they do. Homeowners who pay on time, communicate fairly, and treat people with respect. You've both earned your reputation. We're making sure it's on record. Permanently.
